TCF Canada Registration
Accredited exam centres, prices, session schedules and procedures for registering for the TCF Canada and taking the exam under the best conditions for your Canadian immigration file.
Where to Register for the TCF Canada
Registration for the TCF Canada is done exclusively through an accredited exam centre by France Éducation International (formerly CIEP). You cannot register directly with IRCC or on a global website: each centre manages its own sessions, schedule and fees. Accredited centres are located in many countries, including Canada, France, and several countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and South America.
To find a centre near you and see official contact details, consult our list of TCF Canada exam centres worldwide. There you will find information to help you choose your centre and prepare your registration.
Steps to Register
Once you have identified an exam centre suitable for your place of residence or stay, the process is generally as follows. Check the session schedule: centres offer exam dates several times a year, but spots are often limited. Check the next available dates on the centre's website or by contacting them directly. Reserve your spot: registration is done online or in person depending on the centre. You will need to provide identification and pay the exam fees. Confirm the date and format: depending on the centre, the TCF Canada may be taken on computer (TCF SO) or on paper; the speaking component may be in person or via video conference. Check with the centre to prepare for the right format.
It is advisable to register well in advance to secure a spot on your preferred date, especially during peak periods (before immigration deadlines or university enrolment periods). If you have a deadline for your IRCC file, also factor in the time it takes to receive your results (often two to six weeks after the exam).
TCF Canada Prices and Fees
The cost of the TCF Canada varies by centre and country. As a general rule, it falls between approximately 200 and 400 euros (or the local currency equivalent). Centres set their own fees; there is no single price fixed at the international level. To find out the exact amount, consult the centre's website or contact details directly at the time of registration.
The fee generally includes sitting the four mandatory tests (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking, writing) and the issuance of the official results certificate. Additional fees may apply depending on the centre (for example, express delivery of the certificate). Check the centre's conditions before finalising your registration.
Session Schedule
TCF Canada sessions are organised by each exam centre, not by France Éducation International on fixed dates at a global level. Each centre publishes its own schedule: you may find monthly sessions in some major cities, or only a few dates per year in other locations. To find the next available dates, you need to check the website or contact the centre where you wish to take the exam.
During peak periods, spots fill up quickly. If you are targeting a specific date (for example, to meet an IRCC file submission deadline), register as soon as registration opens for that session. For an overview of centres and useful links: list of exam centres worldwide.
After Registration
Once your registration is confirmed, the centre will generally let you know the exact time and location of the exam, as well as the instructions to follow (identification, arriving early, etc.). Use the period before the exam date to prepare: review the format of each test, practise with TCF Canada-style exercises and consult the NCLC equivalency grid to know what scores to aim for. Our page TCF Canada Tests details the structure of the test, and our page NCLC Score – equivalencies helps you understand how your results will be converted for IRCC.
